Final Blog Post

It appears that virtual schooling will be beneficial in many situations, such as a sick student who needs to complete coursework from home, or offering students the opportunity to take classes that they might not otherwise have been able to. There are also some challenges presented with virtual schooling that include, possibly having inconsistent standards with students who come from cyberschools, or students may want to avoid a certain teacher and elect to take a virtual course instead.

I am not teaching, but from my experience in student teaching, the school I was at was probably not quite yet equipped to deal with the changes that are coming. I believe that although things are changing quickly, I think the changes will be implemented in schools gradually. In the school where I completed my student teaching, students in the 5th grade would probably have the opportunity to take virtual courses. I know the teachers were using technology in their lessons, but virtual schooling changes still need to be implemented gradually.

  1. There lies the problem, schools do not have the tools at this time to do online learning. How are district going to do online learning when students, staff, and building are not equipped with the tools needed to perform the task. Here is the 64 dollar question.

  2. I agree Megan, online learning provides students with so many great benefits. To begin, easy access. If a student is out sick they wouldn't have to worry about missing a ton of homework because they can always simply check online, at any given time. Saves time and is cost effective!

I agree with you virtual schooling has many benefits but also has some problems that need to be worked out. But that is not any different than any other institution. I think the good far outweighs the bad and you mentioned some in your post...the fact that virtual schooling can help sick kids or kids with disability, the fact that kids can become more advanced if they are in a situation where the school where they are aren't offering enough of a challenge. I think once virtual schooling becomes more common then some of the kinks that we see now will go away and it will become even more beneficial for our students.

    1. I agree. Virtual schooling has could potentially give students the opportunity to take courses that may not be offered in their district. You are right that issues could arise in any institution. It's just a matter of working those issues out.
